This collection consists of letters, zines, photographs and personal items related to Mike Ross’s involvement in the punk music scene in Washington D.C. and New York City dating approximately between 1982 and 1987. This collection includes copies of Ross’s zine D.C. Riot.

Biographical / Historical
Malcolm “Mike” Ross graduated from H-B Woodlawn in Arlington, VA. While there he became involved in D.C.’s punk music scene. With two friends and high school classmates, Stafford Mather and Bob Davis, Ross published two issues of his fanzine, Brand New Age c. 1983. After graduating high school, he moved to New York City to attend New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts to study film. Ross passed away in Brooklyn in 1987 following a fall from the Williamsburg Bridge while climbing it with friends.

Donated to the library by Judith Tinelli, Ross’s mother in September 2015.
Processing Information
Daryl Jackson processed this collection. Standard archival procedures were applied in accordance with the Library’s processing manual. Files were organized into six series. Papers that were suffering acid burn were separated from other items either in acid-free paper or in separate folders. Multiple items were weeded from the collection. A plastic slide carousel and 3 ring binder were removed from the collection.
