General Note

This collection consists of photographs of artworks in the People's Archive collection created by Albert 'Vision' Marquis Williams in May 2020 in response to the murder of George Floyd and the resulting protests in Washington. Painted on site near Lafayette Square, several of the panels were later partially covered as the neighborhood became a focal point for the posting of related signs, posters and graffiti by activists. It documents both an individual artist's response to nationwide demonstrations against white supremacy and police brutality, and preserves some of the many works of anonymous protest art so evident on the streets of D.C. that summer.
