Scope and Contents
D.C. Oral History Collaborative (DCOHC) is a citywide initiative to train community members in oral history skills, fund new and ongoing oral history projects, connect volunteers with oral history projects, and publicize existing oral history collections. DCOHC is a project of DC Public Library, HumanitiesDC, and the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. This collection contains oral history interviews, transcripts, and indexes produced by DCOHC grantees.

Ben Wilson is a past co-chair of the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs and a former chair of the law firm, Beveridge and Diamond. In his leadership of both the Washington Lawyers’ Committee and the law firm, Ben was a champion of law firms providing support to DC Public Schools.

Abstract
Benjamin Wilson recalls his early education in very segregated Jackson, Mississippi, his high school years on a partial scholarship at a prep school in Massachusetts, college at Dartmouth, and law school at Harvard. He discusses his legal career that included handling civil litigation for the U.S. Department of Justice and working at several law firms including Beveridge and Diamond, where he was a partner for 35 years and managing partner for 10. He talks about serving on the Board of the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs and his commitment to supporting DC Public Schools.
