Scope and Contents
D.C. Oral History Collaborative (DCOHC) is a citywide initiative to train community members in oral history skills, fund new and ongoing oral history projects, connect volunteers with oral history projects, and publicize existing oral history collections. DCOHC is a project of DC Public Library, HumanitiesDC, and the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. This collection contains oral history interviews, transcripts, and indexes produced by DCOHC grantees.

Biographical / Historical
Joseph Sellers is a currently a partner in the law firm of Cohen Milstein Sellers Toll. In 1981, he was a junior associate at another firm and a volunteer lawyer at Turner Elementary School in southeast Washington. At Turner, he worked with parents and the principal on advocacy which resulted in an urgently needed new drainage system for the school and an energized PTA.

Abstract
Joseph Sellers recalls his early education in suburban Philadelphia, college at Brown University and law school at Case Western Reserve. He talks about the importance of his year as a community organizer and the beginning of his legal career in Washington, D.C. A major part of the interview is about his experiences as a volunteer lawyer working with the principals and parents at Turner Elementary School in southeast Washington. He also discusses his work as director of the project that involved volunteer lawyers working with 14 other schools. During the interview, he reflects on the contributions of several colleagues who helped make Parents United successful.
