Jay Silberman recalls his early education in New York and his memory of his mother being a room parent. College brought him to Washington, D.C. where he graduated from law school at American University. His educational advocacy grew out of his getting involved in the PTA at Janney Elementary School, where his children were students. He explains how his involvement in Parents United began as a school representative, which led to serving on the Board and eventually to becoming a co-chair. He also discusses being a member of the D.C. Board of Education.
