In this recording, Ms. Margarine Neal talks about the early days of Rare Essence when she and Ms. Mack managed the group, collecting money, doing security and interacting backstage with national stars such as Bobby Brown. She discusses her tactics for teaching young people about business and making sure the tour busses and shows ran on time.

Mr. Joseph documented the Go-Go scene in Prince George’s County along with then Washington Post staff writer Natalie Hopkinson and his photographs are included in her 2012 book, 'Go-Go Live: The Musical Life and Death of a Chocolate City' (Duke Press, 2012).
