District of Columbia Militia Scrapbook Collection

The collection consists of three scrapbooks about the D.C. Militia (National Guard) Engineer Battalion. Materials included in the scrapbooks include: clippings from local and national newspapers, correspondence, programs, flyers, maps, blueprints, and photographs. The scrapbooks are labeled "1890-1898," however, the materials extend to 1906. Each scrapbook contains notes at the beginning regarding the contents.

Scope and Contents The scrapbooks contain clippings, invitations, programs, memorabilia, handwritten and typewritten letters, ledgers, receipts, meetings minutes, and a few copies of Canteen, the daily record of the National Rifles and an oversized poster for the July 4th Military Celebration in St. Louis, Missouri. Washington Navy Yard Photograph Collection

The collection consists of 31 3.5x5 inch and 30 8x10 inch images of buildings 137 (General Foundry) and 167 (Boiler Makers shop) in the Washington Navy Yard complex. The smaller images are interior and exterior views of buildings and the larger images are reproductions of architectural blueprints.
