Biographical / Historical

Founded in August of 1921, the Michigan Park Citizens Association serves the Michigan Park neighborhood, with boundaries defined by the Association as the railroad tracks and Red Line Metro, Buchanan Street NE, Gallatin Street NE, Eastern Avenue NE, 20th Street NE, Bunker Hill Road NE, 18th Street NE, and Otis Street NE. The Michigan Park neighborhood grew with the advent of the automobile, allowing for the expansion of neighborhoods further away from the city center.

The Association advocates for local school and community services and acts as the neighborhood representation with D.C. government agencies and other community organizations.

Custodial History

Meeting minutes and correspondence of the Association were originally part of the Library’s vertical files. To ensure the physical preservation of the original minutes and correspondence of the Association, they were removed in 1999 to create this collection.

Processing Information

Basic archival procedures were used at the time of processing. To enhance preservation, materials were removed from the original scrapbook and placed in an acid-free file folder in their original order.
