Custodial History

Collection materials were donated to the Library in several donations by representatives of the Composers Group of the Friday Morning Music Club. The first occurred on November 19, 1987 by Charlotte Thomas and Ruth Norman. A second batch of materials were donated by Kurt Stern in several donations between 1994 and 1998. Additional materials were received by the Library between 2001 and 2004, however there is no record of who made these transfers.

General

Scrapbooks in this collection contain loose pages and must be handled with care due to their fragility. Specifically, those housed in Box 34 require a book support.

Processing Information

Standard archival procedures were applied at the time of processing. Materials were grouped by categories used in Firday Morning Music Club (FMMC) Archives. Materials in “envelope” from Natalia Raigorodsky were merged with larger collection as assumed to be the intention based on the the Deed of Gift. Separated programs from media containers. Programs grouped with programs. Organized chronologically by season (August - June). Filed by decade. Media materials were grouped by reel size and arranged chronologically. dupicate materials and orginal housing were discared along with miscellaneous notes that did not warrant archiving. Scrapbooks were interleaved to prevent staining from newspaper clippings; the processor used non-acidic and buffer paper when possible. All scrapbooks transferred to new containers. Some scrapbooks have failing glue, as noted in item descriptions. Disassembled “scrapbook 1945/46 - 1951/52” and numbered its pages in brackets on bottom right/left. Separated piece of newspaper stored in an envelope. Scrapbook “1977-1978” film negatives stored separately. Pages in 1979-1980 scrapbook folder #3 rearranged to original physical order (is not chronological). Replaced rusty paper clips with plastic clips; removed rusty staples and tape from materials as needed.
