Biographical / Historical

The wire service was established in the late 19th century with the invention of the telegraph. Organizations such as the Associated Press and Reuters created a standardized news story and sold it to multiple news organizations in the U.S. and Europe. As technology advanced, photographs soon followed in later decades.
