Historical Note

The Washington Readers Club was formed in 1905 as part of the entertainment for the Convention of the National Association of Speaking Arts. The Club advocated for the improvement and development of elocution, voice culture, and dramatic expression. In addition to monthly meetings, the Club gave open recitals at the DC Public Library and staged plays for the public.
