Biographical

The Inauguration of Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953 was overseen by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) consisting of six members of Congress chaired by Senator Styles Bridges (R-NH). The JCCIC appointed the 17 Officers of the Inaugural Committee chaired by Joseph C. McGarraghy. The inauguration committee consisted of 33 committees and 73 subcommittees, and had hundreds of members. The Inauguration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Vice President Ricard M. Nixon was held on January 20, 1953.

Series 1: Reports - A collection of reports by committees and subcommittees submitted to the 1953 Inauguration Committee summarizing the activities and decisions of that committee throughout the inauguration planning and execution process.

Provenance

The collection was originally housed within the Washingtoniana book collection, but was removed because of preservation concerns and transferred to the archives. There is no deed of gift for this collection and it is uncertain how the Library acquired the materials.
