Family Stories
Content Description
This collection features 304 short stories written by children, ages 5 to 13 years old, who attend various DC Public Schools. The stories, both written and typed, are about the child’s family and often include a drawing that illustrates their story. The project was a collaboration between the DC Public Library and the DC Public Schools. The stories were written in honor of National Library Week in 1990.

Provenance
Originally housed in the Local Authors Collection in the Washingtoniana Division, the stories were moved to the Archives by the Library’s archivist in 1999.
Processing Procedure
Standard archival procedures were followed at the time of processing. The original order of the files when they were donated was kept, organized by grade and then alphabetically by last name of the child. Due to all the items in the collection being the children’s stories, there is only one series, stories, and then each story was stored in its own folder.
