Scope and Contents

In 2001 the Oral History Committee of Historic Takoma received a grant from Montgomery County's Historic Preservation Commission to conduct interviews with three longtime residents of Takoma Park, Maryland. Topics include public schools, World War II, architecture, real estate development, transportation, the African-American community, race relations, churches, and recreation in the neighborhood and metropolitan area. All interviews were conducted Eilene McGuckian.

Biographical / Historical

Historic Takoma is a membership-based, all volunteer organization founded in 1979 to preserve the heritage of Takoma Park, MD and the Takoma Park neighborhood of D.C. through educational activities and the preservation of historic landmarks and artifacts.

Custodial History

The Historic Takoma conducted these interviews in 2001. The transcripts of these interviews were transferred to the Library in the early 2000s. There is no deed of gift for this collection.

Processing Information

After the initial deposit of the transcripts in the Library, the transcript were bound, cataloged and added to Washingtoniana book collection. In 2014, the transcripts were digitized and in 2017 the collection was reprocessed. Transcripts were placed into folders and boxed. All administrative documents were placed into the control file.
