The series primarily covers Hobson’s work as Chairman of ACT in the early 1960s. It includes correspondence, newsletters, editorials, press releases, and internal memoranda regarding ACT’s protests against police brutality and pupil tracking practices in D.C. The series also documents Hobson’s involvement with the Black United Front (BU) and his rising support of black power in the mid-1960s. Included are BU’s minute meetings, a typewritten list of the names and circumstances surrounding Black Panthers killed in Watts, and resolutions from the “National Conference on Black Power” in 1968. Significant names mentioned include Stokely Carmichael (Chair of the Black United Front), Elijah Muhammed, Adam Clayton Powell, H. Rap Brown, Chuck Stone, Sterling Tucker, and David Eaton.
