Scope and Contents
D.C. Oral History Collaborative (DCOHC) is a citywide initiative to train community members in oral history skills, fund new and ongoing oral history projects, connect volunteers with oral history projects, and publicize existing oral history collections. DCOHC is a project of DC Public Library, HumanitiesDC, and the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. This collection contains oral history interviews, transcripts, and indexes produced by DCOHC grantees.

Biographical / Historical
Community activist Cedric Carter enjoys his life. As a child in the Shaw neighborhood, Carter learned the importance of giving back to others. Carter was a talented young man. He sang, played in a school band, and was known as an energetic, skilled dancer. Although music and dance were integral to his life, Carter did not learn to Hand Dance until he was close to 20 years old. Determined, he became a skilled hand dancer. In the sixth month of the COVID-19 lockdown, Carter collaborated with a friend to find a way to bring dancers together during the pandemic. Today, Carter is continually working to help improve the quality of his fellow D.C. residents. He is employed by a treatment center and provides support to Cease Fire Don't Smoke the Brothers and Sisters.

Abstract
In September 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Cedric Carter found a way to safely bring a group of people together to do two activities, socialize and Hand Dance. Cedric shares his story about his life in Washington, D.C. He discusses his current work for his community. A lover of and advocate for D.C. Hand Dance, Cedric shares how he was able to help provide his service to the Hand Dance community during the 2020 pandemic.
