Scope and Contents
D.C. Oral History Collaborative (DCOHC) is a citywide initiative to train community members in oral history skills, fund new and ongoing oral history projects, connect volunteers with oral history projects, and publicize existing oral history collections. DCOHC is a project of DC Public Library, HumanitiesDC, and the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. This collection contains oral history interviews, transcripts, and indexes produced by DCOHC grantees.

Violeta Bárcenas Chamorro is a Nicaraguan mixed media artist and illustrator. She is a self-taught artist who combines colors, patterns, and letters to create pieces that inspire and bring joy. Violeta lives in Maryland, where she runs Violet Red Studio, an on-line Pop Art store. Her studio is known for its distinguished collection of inspiring and iconic women, enigmatic mantras, and assorted curiosities.

Artist Gerardo Camargo interviewed Violeta Bárcenas about her life, family history, and how she arrived to the U.S. Her art is greatly influenced by women, who she often paints, so she talked about this as well. The interview was conducted in Spanish.
