Narrators for this project developed by the Heurich House Foundation have first- or second-hand knowledge of what it was like to work at the Chr. Heurich Brewing Co. (1873-1956). The project was created, in part, to contribute to the museum’s mission to expand the stories we tell so we can examine the true meaning of the 'American Dream.' Heurich’s life story embodied the supposed “American Dream” yet mostly leaves out the people whose hard work made his success possible. This project sought to memorialize recollections from a group of Washingtonians whose voices have never been heard but who played a central role in turn-of-the-century DC culture, economy, and society, and help connect local DC history to issues of national importance - immigration, the racial wealth gap, and workers’ rights - by elevating intimate accounts of previously unrecognized people.
